About

Trickle Up is an international development organization that partners with women living in extreme poverty to build economic opportunity and drive inclusion. Founded in 1979 and headquartered in New York, the organization works toward a vision of a world free from extreme poverty, using an evidence-based Graduation Approach to help participants develop sustainable livelihoods.

Mission

Trickle Up partners with women in extreme poverty to build economic opportunity and drive inclusion, guided by the vision of a world free from extreme poverty. The organization prioritizes integrity, collaboration, women's leadership, and advancing equity.

What they do

  • Delivers the Graduation Approach, a time-bound, cost-effective, and evidence-based methodology that combines training, mentoring, and investment to help women in extreme poverty build sustainable livelihoods
  • Focuses on women as agents of change, on the premise that women reinvest in their families and that when women thrive, the whole community benefits — for each woman Trickle Up partners with, roughly five people in the community are reached
  • Works through local partners and global organizations to deliver inclusive programs, including named initiatives such as Crece, Fuerte, MPowered, Proinsa, and WINGS
  • Serves refugee and displaced populations alongside its core poverty programs

Where they work

Trickle Up has teams based in Guatemala, Mexico, Uganda, and India, with programs across Latin America and with refugee and displaced communities.

Scale and impact

According to outcomes published in the organization's 2023 progress reporting, participants started and ran successful businesses, saved for the future, and ate more and better foods; on average, participants saved enough money to cover household food expenses for three months, and those completing recent projects reported improvements in the quality and number of meals they consume, along with increased involvement in household decision-making.

Financials

Trickle Up Program Inc is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization (EIN 06-1043042) with an IRS ruling year of 1981. Per ProPublica Nonprofit Explorer, for the fiscal year ending August 2025 the organization reported total revenue of 7,737,168 dollars, total expenses of 5,083,625 dollars, and net assets of 10,703,758 dollars.
