TechSoup (legally TechSoup Global) is a San Francisco-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that helps nonprofits and civil society organizations around the world access the power of technology and use it to improve lives. Working with a global network of partner NGOs and more than 110 corporate donor partners, TechSoup connects charitable organizations with donated and discounted software, hardware, and technology services, along with training and support.

TechSoup's mission is to build a dynamic bridge that leverages technology to enable connections and innovative solutions for a more equitable planet. The organization imagines a world in which social-change agents from all walks of life can fully access the profound power of technology and a connected world.

History

TechSoup was founded in 1987 as CompuMentor, a technology mentoring system to help nonprofits and schools; its founder Daniel Ben-Horin later received the NTEN Lifetime Achievement Award. The TechSoup.org website launched in 2002, its online product donation program began in 2003 with nine donor partners, and the TechSoup Global Network launched in 2007 with partner NGOs in Poland, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Belgium.

Scale and impact

According to TechSoup, since inception it has helped 1.6 million organizations gain over $27 billion (USD) in technology and funding. It reports serving 305,000 organizations in the past year, reaching 234 countries and territories, and that 91 percent of the organizations it serves have budgets under $2 million.

Per its IRS Form 990 as compiled by ProPublica Nonprofit Explorer, TechSoup Global (EIN 94-3070617) reported total revenue of about $36.2 million, total expenses of about $43.5 million, and total assets of about $17.7 million for the fiscal year ending June 2023.
