The Ron Brown Scholar Program is a scholarship and leadership development organization based in Charlottesville, Virginia. It was established in 1996 by Anthony M. Pilaro to honor Ronald H. Brown, the United States Secretary of Commerce, following his death that year. Brown (1941–1996) was the first African American Cabinet Secretary and the first African American Chairman of the Democratic National Committee. The program is operated by the Ron Brown Scholar Fund, a public 501(c)(3) charity.
Mission
The program works to improve the lives of intellectually gifted, service-minded African Americans by accelerating their progress into impactful leadership roles.
