About
Postpartum Support International (PSI) works to increase awareness of the emotional changes women and families experience during pregnancy and after childbirth, and to connect them with information, social support, and informed professional care. Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, PSI notes that approximately 15 percent of all women experience postpartum depression following the birth of a child, and up to 10 percent experience depression or anxiety during pregnancy.

History
PSI was founded on June 28, 1987, by Jane Honikman in Santa Barbara, California, and incorporated as a nonprofit in 1989. Its purpose has been to increase awareness among public and professional communities about the emotional difficulties women can experience during and after pregnancy.
Scale and impact
PSI has members in all 50 U.S. states and across more than 36 countries, with volunteer support coordinators in all 50 U.S. states, Canada, Mexico, and more than 40 other countries. Its website averages more than 100,000 visitors a year.
