Established in 1994 and based in New York, OCRA says it is the oldest and largest ovarian and gynecologic cancer charity globally and invests more in ovarian cancer research than any other public charity, making it the leading non-government funder in the field.

Mission

OCRA is dedicated to curing ovarian cancer while improving treatments by advancing innovative science, promoting preventive measures, and advocating for those affected by gynecologic cancers.

What they do

  • Research funding: investing in scientific breakthroughs across ovarian and gynecologic cancers, including grants to researchers and the Rivkin Ovarian Cancer Research Symposium.
  • Patient support: oncology social work services, peer mentoring, and counseling for patients and caregivers.
  • Woman to Woman peer mentor program: available in more than 20 hospitals and virtually.
  • Survivors Teaching Students: educational outreach in more than 420 schools.
  • Staying Connected support series: online support gatherings led by social workers.
  • Advocacy: lobbying Congress for federal research funding and health policies that benefit patients.

Scale and impact

According to OCRA, the organization has invested $150 million directly in scientific research, helped secure $4.4 billion in federal research and education funding through advocacy, and engages more than 140,000 individuals annually.
