About

The National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) is a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit founded in 1990 that works to create a Just Economy — one in which all Americans can build wealth and provide for their families with stability and dignity. NCRC is a coalition of nearly 800 member organizations nationwide, including community development groups, civil rights advocates, faith-based institutions, and government agencies, and it pairs policy advocacy and research with direct investment in underserved communities.

Mission

NCRC advocates for a Just Economy where all Americans can build wealth and live with stability and dignity. It monitors the flow of capital to underserved communities and works on fair lending, fair housing, affordable housing, small business growth, workforce development, and closing racial wealth gaps rooted in the legacy of redlining.

What they do

  • Community benefits agreements: negotiating commitments from banks and other financial institutions to lend and invest in low- and moderate-income communities.
  • Fair lending: investigations and consumer protection work against discriminatory lending practices.
  • Housing counseling: operating a national housing counseling network.
  • GROWTH by NCRC: rehabilitating and building affordable homes.
  • NCRC Community Development Fund: a U.S. Treasury-certified CDFI providing small business loans.
  • Research and policy advocacy on community reinvestment, plus training, technical assistance, and grants to member organizations.

Scale and impact

Figures reported on NCRC's 2025 impact page include:

  • A membership network of 763 organizations across 43 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

  • $1.7 million in grants distributed to member organizations.
  • More than 8,000 attendees across training programs and over 1,900 hours of technical assistance for entrepreneurs.
