About

The Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA) is the world's largest private, nonprofit funder of melanoma research. Founded in 2007 by Debra and Leon Black following Debra's melanoma diagnosis, the Washington, D.C.-based foundation channels philanthropic dollars into scientific investigations across the entire melanoma spectrum, from basic laboratory research through clinical applications and patient support.

Mission

MRA's mission is to end suffering and death due to melanoma by collaborating with all stakeholders to accelerate powerful research, advance cures for all patients, and prevent more melanomas.

What they do

  • Support the development of new therapies — the organization has supported the development of 20 new FDA-approved treatments
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the melanoma community, including researchers, clinicians, industry, and patients
  • Provide patient support services alongside its research funding
