About

Malala Fund is an international nonprofit organization working toward a world where every girl can learn and lead. Co-founded in 2013 by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai and her father Ziauddin Yousafzai, the organization works to ensure all girls can access and complete 12 years of free, safe, quality education. Headquartered in Washington, DC, Malala Fund invests in local educators and advocates in the countries where girls face the greatest barriers to school.

Mission

Malala Fund works to ensure all girls can access and complete 12 years of education. As Malala Yousafzai puts it, girls understand the power of education, and they are working to open the school gates wide enough for every child to enter.

What they do

  • Grantmaking: Malala Fund funds local partner organizations working to break down the barriers that keep girls out of school. Over the past decade the organization has awarded more than 400 transformational grants to partners.
  • Advocacy: the organization advocates to strengthen girls' rights to secondary education and to secure the resources needed to deliver it, pressing governments and international institutions to prioritize girls' education.
  • Focus countries: Malala Fund concentrates its work in Afghanistan, Brazil, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Tanzania.
