About

The Kids In Need Foundation (KINF) is a national education nonprofit headquartered in Little Canada, Minnesota. Its stated purpose is to "create equitable learning spaces by providing essential supplies and support to under-resourced students and teachers across the country." KINF focuses on schools where 70 percent or more of students are eligible for free or reduced-cost meals through the National School Lunch Program, and its work centers on three pillars: Education, Dignity, and Teachers.

Mission

"We believe every student should have equal access to the opportunities and resources necessary for a quality education." KINF pursues that belief by putting essential school supplies into the hands of the students and teachers who need them most.

What they do

KINF lists the following core programs:

  • National Network
  • Teacher Resource Center MN
  • Supply A Teacher
  • Supply A Student
  • Second Responder
  • RISE (Rural and Indigenous School Equity)

Together these programs deliver essential school supplies and support to under-resourced students and teachers, working with a network of partners across the country.

Scale and impact

In 2024, KINF and its national network delivered 43 million dollars in critical resources across the country to help create nurturing, equitable learning environments. The foundation cites teacher reports that having proper supplies boosts student confidence, participation, and self-esteem by as much as 97 to 99 percent.

Financials

Per ProPublica Nonprofit Explorer (EIN 82-1078462, recognized as tax-exempt by the IRS since 2017), the Kids In Need Foundation reported total revenue of about 46.4 million dollars and expenses of about 75.4 million dollars for fiscal year 2023, and total revenue of about 149.4 million dollars with expenses of about 117.4 million dollars for fiscal year 2022; much of its activity involves donated school supplies distributed through its network. KINF publishes its audited financial statements and Form 990s for 2020 through 2023 on its website, and displays a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator (2025) and a Candid Platinum Seal of Transparency (2025).

Governance

The foundation is led by Chief Executive Officer Corey Gordon, supported by an executive team the organization describes as bringing decades of experience in education advocacy, nonprofit leadership, and community impact.
