About

Inclusiv is a New York City-based nonprofit and certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) dedicated to investing in the community development credit union movement. Founded in 1974, it leads a national network of credit unions and cooperativas that bring safe, affordable, and responsible financial services to low- and moderate-income people and communities across the United States and its territories.

Mission

Inclusiv's mission is "to help low- and moderate-income people and communities achieve financial independence through credit unions." It pursues this through four primary approaches: providing investment capital to community development credit unions (CDCUs), convening members through networking, delivering innovative programs and services, and advocating for financial inclusion policies.

What they do

  • Impact capital: grants, deposits, and investments in CDCUs, plus a loan participation marketplace, a secondary mortgage market, and small business credit enhancement
  • Learning Center: training programs in financial inclusion, homeownership, small business lending, and clean energy finance
  • Technical assistance and tools: CDFI impact support, financial empowerment, data analytics, mortgage servicing, and operations and compliance support
  • Community connection: a member directory, peer networks, events, and webinars
  • Juntos Avanzamos: a national designation recognizing credit unions committed to serving Hispanic and immigrant communities

Its priority focus areas are financial inclusion, homeownership, small business, and clean energy.

Scale and impact

According to Inclusiv, 446 credit unions and cooperativas are Inclusiv members; these member-owned and governed financial cooperatives collectively manage more than $273 billion in assets and serve more than 18 million members across all 50 states, Washington, DC, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, and Puerto Rico. Inclusiv reports having invested more than $500 million in community development credit unions. In 2023, its secondary mortgage program deployed $29 million benefiting 191 households, and it supported $226 million in CDFI grants to cooperativas in Puerto Rico.

Financials

According to its most recent Form 990 on ProPublica Nonprofit Explorer (fiscal year 2024), Inclusiv reported total revenue of $1,897,878,390, total expenses of $14,997,310, total assets of $1,960,631,669, and net assets of $1,908,536,891.
