About
Human-I-T is a 501(c)(3) social enterprise that turns e-waste into access to technology. It creates equitable access to opportunity by providing devices, internet access, digital skills training, and tech support to communities left on the wrong side of the digital divide, while empowering businesses and organizations to do good by diverting technology from landfills, reducing e-waste, and protecting the planet. Headquartered in Bell, California, it works with donors and partners nationwide.
Mission
In Human-I-T's words: "Human-I-T is a social enterprise that creates equitable access to opportunity by providing devices, internet access, digital skills training, and tech support to communities left on the wrong side of the digital divide. At the same time, we empower businesses and organizations to do good by diverting technology from landfills, reducing e-waste, and protecting our planet."
What they do
- Low-cost refurbished devices (laptops, computers, tablets) for individuals and families in need, distributed through programs and a low-cost online store
- Low-cost internet connectivity for households without reliable access
- Digital skills training and one-on-one digital navigation support
- Ongoing tech support for device recipients
- IT asset disposition (ITAD) services for businesses, including NAID AAA-certified data sanitization and destruction, data center equipment disposal, and technology drives, with unusable devices ethically recycled
How the model works
Unlike a traditional nonprofit that relies solely on donor contributions, Human-I-T operates a circular-economy model: corporations donate unused or end-of-life technology instead of sending it to landfills, every device receives certified data sanitization and refurbishment, and refurbished devices reach individuals and families through its programs and low-cost store. Many technology donors also become corporate sponsors.
