History
FCA began when San Francisco families and community leaders formed an organization to support people caring for loved ones with conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, dementia, stroke, and Parkinson's. That early work led to the creation of California's statewide network of Caregiver Resource Centers and helped spark a national movement to recognize the contributions of family caregivers. The organization received its IRS tax-exempt ruling in 1980 and describes itself as having served family caregivers for nearly 50 years.
