History

Founder Hal Donaldson's father was killed in a car crash in 1969, and the kindness his family received from neighbors laid the foundation for the organization. In 1994, inspired by meetings with Mother Teresa and missionaries Mark and Huldah Buntain, Donaldson and a group of family and friends established Convoy of Hope and held its first outreaches, called "Care Days." The organization opened its Springfield, Missouri headquarters in 1996, conducted its first U.S. and international disaster responses in 1998, and served its one-millionth person in 1999. It responded to the 9/11 attacks, distributed nearly 1,000 tractor-trailer loads of food and supplies after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and served its 100th country in 2007. It surpassed 50 million people served in 2012, distributed more than 200 million meals during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, delivered emergency relief in Ukraine in 2022, opened its Global Headquarters & Training Center in 2023, and served 85 communities across six states after Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024.

Financials

According to ProPublica's Nonprofit Explorer, Convoy of Hope reported total revenue of $435,592,269, total expenses of $364,499,974, and net assets of $155,877,434 for fiscal year 2021, with contributions making up 98.3 percent of revenue.
